Ambu Recircle program expands to include bioplastic Suresight blades

Copenhagen, Denmark, 8 June 2026 – Ambu, the global leader in single-use endoscopy, today announces the expansion of its pioneering recycling program, Ambu® Recircle Program, beyond endoscopes. The program now includes single-use blades from Ambu’s SureSight video laryngoscopy solution, which are also now produced using bioplastic materials.1

Together, these steps further embed circular solutions across Ambu’s portfolio – from material sourcing to end-of-life handling – turning waste into a resource and reinforcing the company’s commitment to helping customers reduce waste.

In 2024, Ambu introduced bioplastics in the handles of its single-use endoscopes. In 2025, it launched the Ambu Recircle Program, giving hospitals a structured, compliant way to collect and process used endoscopes.

These initiatives made Ambu the world’s first single-use endoscopy company to introduce bioplastic and to recycle used endoscopes for new non-medical purposes.

With the addition of Ambu’s video laryngoscope blades, Ambu now broadens its recycling scope across clinical practice. This supports the company’s efforts to help hospitals manage their environmental impact more consistently as part of their day-to-day operations, without adding complexity to clinical workflows.

The program currently operates in about 50 hospital sites and over 140 clinical departments across Germany, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Ambu expects to further introduce the program to two more countries during 2026 and has set the high ambition to collect more than 1 million medical devices and implement 50% circular materials in its endoscopes by 2030.

“Adding video laryngoscope blades to Ambu’s Recircle program marks an important step in expanding circular solutions across our portfolio,” says Britt Meelby Jensen, Chief Executive Officer of Ambu. “It helps hospitals cut waste across procedures and underlines our commitment to supporting customers reduce waste with simple solutions in everyday clinical practice.”

1 The bioplastic material that Ambu has introduced in its fleet of single-use endoscopes and video laryngoscope blades is derived from a mix of bio-based second-generation feedstock and fossil-based feedstock, e.g., recycled food waste.
