Our Values
Ambu’s values constitute the basis upon which we develop our culture - with the right culture we will be able to achieve our strategic objectives.
In Ambu we have identified four corporate values:
- Taking charge
- Open-minded
- Team Player
- Innovative
Our set of shared values gives us attitudes and behaviours that distinguish us from our competitors and make us unique. The values help create and enhance our corporate culture; the foundation upon which Ambu’s development builds.
Taking charge
- We take initiatives and accept responsibility for our actions
- We have the courage to take action
Ping-pong across the world
We have organised several relocations of production projects from Denmark to Penang, Malaysia. The largest project, both in terms of organizational effort and culture, lasted from January 2001 to May 2002 and involved the transfer of an entire manual production line and its 30 heavy machines.
In Malaysia we started out by building up competencies at the local level. Danish employees went to Malaysia to teach their new colleagues how to operate the machines and perform quality control.
Employees from Malaysia went to Denmark to learn from the Danish experience. To get maximum benefit from a cooperative effort it is extremely important to get together and get a first-hand experience of the working conditions of your fellow collaborators.
The project was a success thanks to communication and teamwork criss-cross the organization - that more than anything else.
Open-minded
- We make room for innovation and creative thinking
- We seek out and develop new, different and value-adding solutions
Job satisfaction, pride and efficiency
For a while it was difficult for us to satisfy the demand for printed sensor elements for the SU electrodes. We decided to make a radical move to find a permanent solution.
It was a task that required professional expertise and planning oversight, and so the best solution was for the employees in the department to become involved in the coordination of the work.
Under the new system, the employees have taken control of the organisation of production, development assignments and working hours, and they improve the processes on an ongoing basis. With this new division of labour, production levels increased 40 % without changes in manning levels and equipment.
Thanks to their openness to change, a group of employees has considerably enhanced their job satisfaction and professional pride.
Team Player
- We work together to promote a sense of belonging based on fun and personal development
- We work together to achieve shared goals
Putting out fires - literally!
During the construction of a new production hall in Denmark, a fire suddenly erupted in the new roof less than an hour after the building workers had left the site for the weekend. It was summer, the weather was hot and dry, and earlier the same day they had been welding the roofing felt.
The evening shift was working by the machines, and had it not been for the resourcefulness and resolute action of the Ambu employees, the whole situation could easily have turned into a disaster.
They called the fire brigade and then started helping each other roll out a fire hose. When the fire brigade arrived, the fire was already under control. Fortunately no one sustained any injuries.
In the absence of a prompt reaction and efficient cooperation on the part of the evening shift, the fire could easily have gone out of control.
Innovative
- We are receptive to new ideas and respect diversity
- We view change as a learning opportunity
A unique solution that builds upon an inclusive R&D environment
In less than no time we developed the Ambu® Laryngeal Mask, a device used to sustain the respiratory function in patients that are unconscious or under general anaesthesia.
The overall objective was to develop a product that, besides being similar to the existing laryngeal masks, would offer customers new, innovative benefits - such as an easier insertion in patients and less stress for the airways during surgery.
The creative R&D environment consisted of a core group of Ambu employees working with product and process development, clinical testing and product marketing. As a relatively new feature we included four anaesthesiologists from Germany, France, the USA and Denmark to contribute clinical experience and input on improvements. The project was completed within the timetable, within the budget and with a unit price considerably below expectations.
The result is an innovative product that brings value to customers in the form of quality and user-friendliness.
