New studies on the Laryngeal Mask

Two new studies and scientific posters on Ambu Laryngeal Mask are now available

1) Ambu Laryngeal Mask vs. Laryngeal Mask Unique: Evaluation of two Modified Disposable Ventilatory Devices.
By H. Francksen, M.D., B. Bein, M.D.,T. Obermöller, B.S., J. Scholz, M.D., V. Dörges, M.D.

Re-usable supraglottic airway devices are established in clinical anaesthesia and were previously shown to be safe and efficient (1-3). Especially for emergency airway management there was increasing demand for disposable devices. The purpose of the present prospective, randomised, controlled trial was to assess the recently developed Laryngeal Mask Unique (LMA-U) and the Ambu® Laryngeal Mask (Ambu LM) in routine clinical practise.

2) Efficacy of Different Laryngeal Mask Airway Devices with and without Aperture Bars.
Luis Gaitini, M.D., Boris Yanovski, M.D., Mustafa Samri, M.D., Karam Keresh, M.D., Riad Toame, M.D.

This prospective, randomised study compares the LMA ‘Unique’ with four new LMA: Portex Soft Seal, Solus Intersurgical, Laryngeal Airway Armstrong and Laryngeal Mask Ambu in adult patients during general anaesthesia with spontaneous ventilation. The specific variables measured were fiberoptic view, oxygen saturation and end tidal CO2 (ETCO2).
